General notes

Seize the whole word, without truncation, in its infinitive form.
The seizure of the words can be done either in small or capital letters, with or without accent, with or without hyphen.
Research can be done either by one or more words, or by references of images.
Do not use the signs + - | or words like AND OR EXCEPT WITHOUT as Boolean operators.

Boolean operators

AND : Refines the search by showing only the pictures containing ALL the words present in the description of the image.
             Searched words : man AND dog.
             Result of the search : pictures representing men and dogs together.

OR : Widens the search by showing the pictures containing 1 of the words or all the words.
         Searched words : man OR dog.
         Result of the search : pictures representing either men or dogs or men and dogs together.

NOT : Refines the search by excluding the pictures containing the word seized after NOT.
           Searched words : man NOT dog.
           Result of the search : pictures representing men alone and not together with dogs.

Free search by key-word(s)

Extension of the search

Full text search relates to all the fields of a file (support, title, caption...) So the result of the search is wider.

Search by only one keyword or by the reference of a picture:

Seize a word or a reference number in one of the 3 fields and push „Enter“ or click on „OK“.
If the word generates too much „noise“, you must either refine the search by crossing several keywords or use the guided search (explained here-under).

Search by more than one keyword or by references of pictures:

Search by Boolean operators AND OR NOT

3 possibilities of search with more than one keyword or references of pictures:

1. Seize one word or picture reference per field by selecting the Bolean operator you wish.
2. Seize several words or picture references in one and the same field.
3. Seize a group of words or an exact expression between "quotation marks" in order to avoid "noise", i.e. pictures not relating to the desired subject. Example: "Steam boat" seized between quotation marks makes it possible to exclude the images containing the words "boat" and "steam". You will only get pictures of "Steam boat"s.

Search in the thesaurus

With one keyword only

1. Click on the “One keyword only” tab
2. Type the requested word in the input box on the bottom of the thesaurus, then confirm with “OK”. The found elements appear in bold-faced type in the “One keyword only” thesaurus tab and their number appears on top of it.
You may also unfold and refold the thesaurus with the help of the arrows and in order to find the wanted keyword.
3. Click on the keyword to display the associated pictures on the right screen.

With several keywords

If you use several keywords, you can refine your search. So you may choose to include certain words, or, on the contrary, exclude them.

1. Click on the “Many keywords” tab.
2. If some keywords are displayed on top of the thesaurus, delete them by clicking on the cross, which is placed near every word.
3. Unfold and refold the thesaurus with the help of the arrows and in order to find the wanted keyword.
4. Select them one by one by clicking on them.

As soon as you select one word, the thesaurus unfolds and refolds itself automatically to show only the keywords relating to the one you have just selected.

The chosen keywords are displayed on top of the thesaurus.

5. Choose the operator linking each keyword with the help of the icon placed near to the word.

Operator	AND	OR	WITHOUT
Result	Refines the search and allows to display the pictures, which are described as well by the first as by the second keyword	Widens the search and allows to display the pictures described by the first or by the second keyword or by both.	Refines the search and allows to display the pictures which are not described by the word following to the operator.
Exemple	DOG AND CAT Displays the pictures indexed with the words DOG and CAT	DOG OR CAT Displays the pictures indexed with the word DOG or the word CAT or both.	DOG WITHOUT CAT Displays the pictures indexed with the word DOG without the keyword CAT.

If you want to modify a search with several keywords, you may :
> Modify the operator(s) linking the keywords
> Delete the keywords by clicking on the cross, which is placed near the requested word.
> Delete the keywords by clicking on the cross, which is placed near every keyword, and then choose new keywords.

The display of the pictures is automatically updated following the new search parameters.
